Last week Zviad Sichinava, president of Georgian Football Federation, and general secretary Revaz Arveladze attended the meeting of presidents and general secretaries of UEFA member countries in Dubrovnik. They returned to Tbilisi on Friday.
The participants of the meeting discussed many interesting issues. One of the issues was to hold European Championship 2020 by regional principle. Despite a great desire, Georgia did not send application. The president of Georgian Football Federation made comment for the official website of GFF.
Zviad Sichinava: “We took into consideration a lot of things and did not sent application. The situation in our country does not let us hold European Championship. There were talks of hosting one group. One group consists of 4 teams and 6 matches. It needs two stadiums, four training fields and other important infrastructure or human resources. We supported regional principle and hopefully, our Azerbaijani colleagues will win a right to host the championship because everything is ready in Baku. This city is highly developed – stadiums, hotels, airports and others…
Other interesting and important issues were also discussed. In January we will gather again and perhaps, we will return with very interesting and pleasant surprise. There is talk about one of the tournaments. Hopefully, UEFA will decide this issue in our favor.
We have discusses Euro 2020 for a long time. In my opinion, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Portugal, England, Holland or Scandinavian countries and cities of Azerbaijan will host the championship. The Baltic countries refused to hold the championship. Like us, they are not ready to host such tournament”.
