Georgian men’s tennis team is participating in the third group of Europa/Africa Zone of the Davis Cup in San Marino. The Georgians guaranteed playing in play-off.
The team of Victor Bakshi is in Group C and defeated Armenia 3:0 in the first round. Then, the Georgians won over host San Marino 3:0.
In the previous round Giorgi Tsivadze defeated Marco De Rossi 6:0, 6:0. Then, Aleksandre Metreveli beat Diego Zonzini 6:1, 4:6, 6:0. In doubles draw Tsivadze and Metreveli won over De Rossi and Domenico Vicini 6:1, 7:5.
The Georgian team took the first place in the group. In semifinal the Georgians will face winner of Group A Greece. The Greeks defeated Montenegro and Liechtenstein 3:0.
The next opponent of Georgia has four players on ATP ranking. Alexandros Jakupovic is in the 582nd place, Markos Kalovelonis – in the 1126th place, Charalampos Kapogiannis – in the 1381st place and Konstantinos Mikos – in the 1391st place.
Aleksandre Metreveli is in the 965th place, Tsivadze – in the 1553rd place. Shota Meparidze, a reserve player of the team, is not on the ranking.
In the second semifinal Norway and Macedonia will play against each other. Finalists will play in the second group of Europe/Africa Zone in 2014.
