“World Sport” rewarded Guram Kashia – as the best Georgian football player of 2013 by the poll of our website’s users. This poll was completed in late January, but of course, we had to reward the prize personally to Kashia. In March, before the match against Liechtenstein, it failed because there was no time. The team was preparing for the match. Now, Kashia is in Tbilisi on holidays and the rewarding took place.
Kashia was very close to become the best player of “world sport” in 2012 too, but then Tornike Okriashvili surpassed him. This time, central defender of “Vitesse” Arnhem and Georgian national team surpassed Jaba Kankava (II place) and Giorgi Loria (III place).
During the time, that our editorial staff is conducting this poll, it transfers a monthly stipend to the first coach of the winner player – 150 GEL. This year 69-year-old Zorbeg Ebralidze, former football player of “Dinamo” Tbilisi, “Torpedo” Kutaisi and “Guria” Lanchkhuti, gets the stipend.
Zorbeg Ebralidze also came together with Guram Kashia. Ebralidze was the only player, who scored a goal in London, when “Dinamo” Tbilisi lost to “Tottenham” 1:5.
When Guram got the prize said such thing, which confirms his humility:
“You know, I have a lot of such prizes, but sometimes I think: Do I deserve it? I would like to thank you and those people, who appraised me”.
Zorbeg Ebralidze remembered Kashia’s childhood:
“He was 10 years old when I became his coach in “Young Dinamo”. Perhaps, Guram was the only player in the team, who did not need any instructions. He played intelligently. At that time, the libero system still existed and Guram was libero. He perfectly leaded the match. Guram lacked a bit of flexibility, but he improved it over time. I know from my experience, that the golden age for defender is 27-33. Golden ages starts for Guram now. I want to thank you, editorial staff of “World Sport”, because you are doing your job well”.
A few days ago, we offered the extensive interview with Guram Kashia (http://worldsport.ge/ge/page/guram-kashia-guliani-kapitani), there are no novelty about his club news. He will leave for Holland on June 25 and on June 27 starts practicing in “Vitesse”, which will be held in Germany.
Kashia makes through to the symbolic teams of Holland round Championships very often. This year (like last year) almost every known publications put him into season’s symbolic. In 2010, when he was a captain of “Dinamo” Tbilisi, Guram moved to “Vitesse” and in a year he was given a captain’s armband. During 4 seasons, Guram Kashia hold 125 matches for “Vitesse” and scored 10 goals.
In 2009 Guram played for the first time for the national team. He has the following statistics: 27 matches, 1 goal (against Finland). Hopefully, he has the best matches ahead.
