Georgians at the Top

International Judo Federation published a new world ranking. Three from seven weight categories have Georgian leaders. Varlam Liparteliani (90kg) strengthened the first place with European silver medal and 240 ranking points. European champions Amiran Papinashvili (60kg) and Lasha Shavdatuashvili (66kg) were unreachable for opponents after the Hungarian success. They earned 500-500 points.

Papinashvili shared the third place with Uzbek Rishod Sobirov. Now he overcame Sobirov and is close to the first and second-placed: Naohisa Takato of Japan and Arsen Galstyan of Russia. Shavdatuashvili was behind David Larose of France. The French won bronze medal and earned 160 points on the Budapest tatami. The Georgian Olympic champion advanced after the European triumph.

Nugzar Tatalashvili and Zebeda Rekhviashvili (both 73kg) are beyond Top 10 but they have progress. Tatalashvili won silver medal and advanced with 6 places. Now he is in the 15th place. European bronze medal winner Rekhviashvili advanced with one place and is in the 16th place.

European current champion Avtandil Chrikishvili (81kg) is still in the third place. If he was 600-700 points behind the opponents, now he minimized the difference. He is almost 500 points ahead of Antoine Valois-Fortier of Canada.

Liparteliani could not finish the Hungarian final with the desired result but he is in the first place. The second-placed Asley Gonzales of Cuba is 228 points behind Liparteliani.

100kg is the only weight category which we must not be proud of. Irakli Tsirekidze and Levan Zhorzholiani are in the 22nd-23rd places but both of them have finished active sport career. Current Georgian sportsmen Aleksandre Mskhaladze and Davit Loriashvili are in the 43rd-53rd places.

Adam Okruashvili, finalist of Hungarian European Championship, is in the 4th place.
