The Women Finished in the Fourth Place, the Men - in the Sixth Place

The Georgian men and women teams could not win medals at European Team Championship which finished in the capital of Poland, Warsaw. Finally, the women took the fourth place and the men – the sixth place.

The men’s team was No.14 seed. Our team lost only once in the 9th round and left behind such teams like Ukraine (No.4 seed), England (5), Holland (8) and Czech Republic (9).

The Georgian men’s team beat Ukraine (2.5:1.5), drew with Czech Republic and earned 12 points like Hungary but was behind the Czechs according to the additional data.

Baadur Jobava (2695), Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2631), Merab Gagunashvili (2556), Levan Pantsulaia (2595) and Gaioz Nigalidze (2494) played in the name of Georgia.

Azerbaijan won the tournament with 14 points. France, Russia and Armenia earned 13-13 points. Finally, France won silver medal and Russia – bronze one.

Unfortunately, the Georgian women’s team could not get in Top 3. The Georgians took the fourth place.

The Georgian women lost to Russia (1:3) and beat Holland (4:0) but it could not change anything.

Ukraine won European title with 15 points. Russia and Poland shared the second-third places with 14-14 points. However, Russia won silver medal.

Nana Dzagnidze (2556), Meri Arabidze (2374), Nino Khurtsidze (2462), Bela Khotenashvili (2524) and Lela Javakhishvili (2423) played in the name of Georgia. The Georgian women gained 12 points in 9 rounds.
