Georgian national judo team ended the first day at Baku "Grand Slam" with two medals. Tristan Peikrishvili a wrestler in 66 kg weight category and Shalva Kardava gained bronze medals and as a result earned 200-200 ranking points. Today champions and prize winners found out in 60, 66 and 73 kg weight categories and two-two Georgians became prize winners in all the three weight categories. Shorena Sharadze (63 kg) also represented Georgia at this following competition.
Georgians wrestling in 66 kg weigh categories went through the repechage final from the semi-finals. Peikrishvili lost the chance of winning gold-silver with the No.1 rank at "Grand Slam" Tumurkhuleg Davaadorzh. In the repechage final he wrestled against Yakub Shamilov a member of Russian national team and gained a bronze medal.
Zebeda Rekhviashvili a bronze prize winner at European championship lost 1/4 final match with host Rustam Oruzhov and went through the repechage. In the repechage semi-final Rekhviashvili who was to lose with Alex Morin Martel managed to beat him at the fourth minute and for bronze medal he wrestled against Brazilian Marselo Kontini.
Shalva Kardava went through the "Bronze Final" after losing with Nijat Shikhaizada, he wrestled in "Bronze Final" against Azerbaijani Tarlan Karimov and gained a bronze medal.
In the lightest weight category, Paata Merebashvili and Vazha Margvelashvili stayed beyond the tournament from the very first stage.
Among women, Shorena Sharashidze represented Georgia in 63 kg weight category. She started competition from the 1/8 final and lost with Tina Tresteniak of Slovenia.
Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be found out in four weight categories: 81, 90, 100 and +100 kg. 7 judokas will represent Georgia.
