"Grand Slam" of Two Bronze Medals

The Georgian judo team finished Tokyo “Grand Slam” with two medals. Head coach Irakli Uznadze took young judokas to Japan. Avtandil Chrikishvili (81 kg) and Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) were the only experienced judokas from the Georgians. Yesterday Chrikishvili won bronze medal and today Liparteliani took the third place. 

In semifinal the Georgian judoka (90 kg) lost gold-silver chance to Masyu Beiker of Japan. Before the semifinal Liparteliani beat Hirotaka Kato of Japan and Aaron Hildebrand of Germany by ippons. In repechage final the Georgian defeated Shohei Shimowada of Japan  and earned 200 ranking points.

In the final Beiker won over Kyu-Won Lee of South Korea.

Today champions and prize winners will be found out in 100 and +100 kg. Aleksandre Mskhaladze (100 kg), Levan Matiashvili and Giorgi Zakariadze (both +100 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia. All of them lost to Japanese opponents in the first round.

Zakariadze beat Sven Heinle of Germany but lost to Masaru Momose. Mskhaladze lost to Taka Ono and Matiashvili – to Ryu Shichinohe.

Lukas Krpalek of Czech Republic became champion in 100 kg and Sung-Min Kim of South Korea – in +100 kg.

The Tokyo tournament is followed by the joint practice. The Georgian national team will participate in it.
