The Georgian women’s tennis team achieved its goal. The Georgians girls won all matches in Group II of Euro-African zone at Fed Cup and promoted to Group I.

The Georgian team won over Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina 3:0, South Africa 2:1.

In semifinal the Georgians defeated Finland 2:1. In the first match Oksana Kalashnikova (world No.308) unexpectedly lost to Emma Laine (No.967).  Sofia Shapatava (No.200) beat Piia Suomalainen (No.833). In doubles Kalashnikova and Shapatava defeated Laine and Suomalainen 6:4, 6:2.

The contribution of Sofia Shapatava is worth mentioning. She held 8 (!) matches in four days and lost only 1 set.
