In 2005 freestyle wrestler Revaz Mindorashvili became world champion in Budapest. After 8 years he as a head coach had a chance of gold medal in Budapest again. Today we expected more from titled and experienced wrestlers – current European champion Davit Marsagishvili (84 kg) lost 1/8 final and Vladimer Khinchegashvili (60 kg), finalist of London Olympic Games, lost ¼ final.
Heavyweight Geno Petriashvili was the only light point for the Georgian fans. The 19-year-old wrestler won bronze medal at World Championship. He also took the third place at European Championship.
Petriashvili lost gold-silver chance in semifinal where he lost to Khadzhimurat Gatsalov of Russia.
Before this fight, Geno Petriashvili defeated two opponents. He started participation from 1/8 final. The Georgian beat Hitender of India 8:0 in 47 seconds and Rares Chintoan of Romania 7:0 in one minute and 55 seconds.
In repechage final the Georgian heavyweight won over Zhiwei Deng of China 10:3 in 4 minutes. In the final Gatsalov defeated Alen Zaseyev of Ukraine 7:0 in 3 minutes.
Davit Marsagishvili beat Nikolay Paslar of Bulgaria (5:0) and Keith Gavin of America (8:0) in one minute and 15 seconds. In 1/8 final the Georgian lost to Ehsan Lashgari of Iran.
Vladimer Khinchegashvili could not overcome ¼ final and Nyam-Ochir Enkhsaikhany of Mongolia.
Before ¼ final, Vladimer Khinchegashvili won two fights. He defeated Abel Herrera of Peru 9:6 and Seung-Chul Lee of South Korea 8:0.
After beating the Georgians, Nyam-Ochir Enkhsaikhany and Ehsan Lashgari lost their fights. So, Vladimer Khinchegashvili and Davit Marsagishvili lost a chance of winning bronze.
On 18 September champion and prize winners will be found out in 74 kg. Iakob Makarashvili will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
