Leri Chelidze (55 kg), member of the Georgian junior judo team, won bronze medal at World Championship which is under way in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. On the first day champions and prize winners were found out in two weight classes: 55 and 60 kg. Only one Georgian judoka wrestled on tatami today because Georgia did not have a participant in 60 kg.
Chelidze defeated Batbayar Barsuren of Mongolia by waza-ari, Mark Tobin of Australia and Sobit Khujamov of Uzbekistan. In ¼ final the Georgian lost to Vitor Torrente of Brazil.
In repechage semifinal Leri Chelidze beat Davud Mammadov of Azerbaijan by waza-ari. In “bronze final” Chelidze won over Ryuju Nagayama of Japan.
Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be found out in 66 and 73 kg. Gela Kelikhashvili (66 kg), Levan Gugava and Pridon Gigani (both 73 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
The preliminary block will start at 12:00 Tbilisi time.
