The Georgian judo team finished Baku Grand Slam with 2 medals. Today Beka Gviniashvili (90 kg) won bronze medal. The 18-year-old sportsman won four from five fights on the Azerbaijani tatami and earned 200 ranking points.
Gviniashvili defeated Ciril Grossklaus of Switzerland and Firudin Dadashov of Azerbaijan by ippons. In ¼ final the Georgian failed to Noel van Tend of Holland. In repechage semifinal Gviniashvili beat Shahin Gahramanov of Azerbaijan.
In repechage final the Georgian judoka wrestle against Walter Facente of Italy and beat him in 36 seconds.
In 90 kg Zviad Gogochuri lost to Guillaume Elmont of Holland in 3 minutes and half.
Today champions and prize winners were also found out in 100 and +100 kg. Georgia had two-two participants in both weight classes but all of them lost the first round.
Aleksandre Mskhaladze (100 kg) failed to Maxim Rakov of Kazakhstan. Tushishvili (100 kg) lost to Zafar Makhmadov of Russia.
In +100 kg Rostom Khakhaleishvili failed to El Mehdi Malki of Morocco and Giorgi Zakariadze – to Ushangi Kokauri of Azerbaijan.
Today Irine Leonidze (+78 kg), the only female judoka of the Georgian team, wrestled on tatami. However, in the first round she failed to Xiaonan Qi of China.
