Avtandil Chrikashvili (81 kg), #2 seed Georgian judoka, won the 3rd meeting in the current World Championship in Rio de Janeiro and went through the ¼ final. After defeating Belarusian Aliaksandr Stsiashenka and Emmanuel lucenti of Argentina, he easily won over Iranian Amir Ghasemi Nejad.

Levan Tsikaluri (81 kg) also wrestled in the name of Georgia. He started well, but in the 1/16 final lost to Mongolian Uuganbaatar Otgonbaatar by Yuko and ended his participation in the World Championship.
