Next Monday the Georgian Wrestling Federation will present Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams new coaching staffs. Luka Kurtanidze, president of the federation, made this statement at the press conference today.
Kurtanidze decided to dismiss Begi Darchia (Greco-Roman) and Revaz Mindorashvili (freestyle) due to poor results at European and World Championships 2014. This year the Georgian Greco-Roman team finished European Championship with bronze medal of Giorgi Tsirekidze (80 kg). The freestyle team won three medals: gold of Vladimer Khinchegashvili and bronze of Konstantine Khabalashvili from European Championship and silver of Khinchegashvili from World Championship.
“Unfortunately, this year is worse than last year. The national teams are in tough situation and we need changes. The federation will discuss this issue with notable Georgian veteran wrestlers. On Monday we will present new coaching staff which will prepare the national teams for the Olympics” – stated Luka Kurtanidze.
Former head coaches of the teams also attended the press conference. They did not know about the decision of Kurtanidze. After the press conference they left the hall without comments.
