Georgian tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili made through to semifinal of the Appiano tournament (Italy, 15 000 USD).
In the first round of Sparkassen Trophy No.4 seed Basilashvili defeated Guillermo Hormazabal of Chile 7:6 (7:5), 5:7, 6:2. Then, he beat Antonio Massara of Italy 5:7, 7:6 (8:6), 6:0 and No.7 seed Juan Lizariturry of Spain 6:2, 6:3. In semifinal Nikoloz will play either Vagnozzi or Prader.
In doubles draw Basilashvili and Sherif Sabry of Egypt beat No.3 seed duet of Grassi of Italy and Hormazabal 2:6, 7:6 (9:7), 10:6. In ¼ final they won over Italians – Galovic and Petrone 6:1, 6:2. In semifinal Basilashvili and Sabry lost to another host tandem 4:6, 4:6.
Basilashvili is in the 302nd place with 137 points on ATP ranking. If Nikoloz wins the Appiano tournament, he will earned 35 points. The Georgian has already guaranteed 10 ranking points.
