American Press:"Shengelia Won't Play at European Championship"

 Georgian forward is operated on July the 31th and he might miss the new NBA season

"Brooklyn Nets" officially confirmed that the forward of club and a forward of the national team of Georgia Tornike Shengelia will be operated on. According to the general manager of “Brooklyn Nets” Billey King, he suffers from a meniscus of the left knee joint, and operation is planned for July 31.

According to the American press, terms of recovery of Shengelia will be defined after operation, but is actually decided that the Georgian basketball player will pass not only CHE 2013, but also starting matches of a new season of NBA.

Tornike got over in "Nets" last year and in a debut season he played 19 matches, having played on the average for a match of 4,9 minutes and gathering on the average 1,6 points and 1,2 selections.

In inter-season period the Georgian forward acted in summer league of Orlando and though did not manage to show impressive results, but after all deserved good marks of experts.

"Тоkomotive" as it was nicknamed by commentators from Orlando, during summer league on the average realized 35% of throws and gathered 7.6 points. He in the same place also aggravated an injury of a knee.

21-year-old Shengelia will be big loss for the national team of Georgia which lost the service of the captain, Zaza Pachulia too.

Let's remind that Tornike at the last Evrobasket in Lithuania on the average gathered 8.8 points and 4.6 selections. It was more productive in a qualification round of European championship 2013 during which his average result already was13.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.6 block-shots.

Let's remind that Eurobasket will take place on September 4-22 in Slovenia. The national team of Georgia will play in group C, together with the national teams of the hosts, acting champion Spain, Croatia, Poland and the Czech Republic.
