Three candidates are left in the fight for the presidency of the National Wrestling Federation. Today Roman Rurua, veteran wrestler, world’s 4-time and Olympic champion, withdrew his candidature. The initiative group of wrestlers made the special statement, stating that the different branches of the government carried out harassment in favor of parliamentarian Valeri Gelashvili. Behind the scenes, some people say that Rurua made this decision under the pressure, but the veteran wrestler strongly denies this fact.
“Nobody can force me to do something. There were some suggestions, exchange of ideas, but I have made the final step independently. To lead Federation is the greatest burden and its combination with other activities would be difficult for me and I decided to let the way to others”, - said Rurua.
The congress will take place on December 26 and 109 delegates will make a choice between Gelashvili, Kvirkvelia and Makasarashvili.
