Vazha Margvelashvili (66 kg), member of the Georgian judo team, took the 7th place in Tokyo Grand Slam. Margvelashvili held five fights on the Japanese tatami. In the main draw he defeated Emanuele Bruno of Italy.
In the second round the Georgian judoka won over Patrick Gagne of Canada by waza-ari.
Then, Margvelashvili beat Adrian Gomboc of Slovenia in a minute and half and made through to ¼ final where the Georgian failed to Golan Pollack of Israel.
In repechage semifinal the Georgian lost to Kengo Takaichi of Japan.
Beka Shavdatuashvili also wrestled in 66 kg. He started participation from the second round and lost to Baul An of South Korea.
Today champions and prize winners will also be found out in 60 kg. The Georgian team does not have a participant in this weight class because Amiran Papinashvili has just recovered from injury.
Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be found out in 73 and 81 kg and the day after tomorrow – in 90, 100 and +100 kg.
Grand Slam champions will earn 500 ranking points with gold medal. Silver medal winners will gain 300 points and bronze medal winners – 200.
