Basilashvili's Historical Victory

Nikoloz Basilashvili became the first Georgian tennis player in history of independent Georgia who won the tournament which is part of the ATP World Tour 500 series. Nika beat Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6:4, 0:6, 7:5 in final of German Open.

At this moment Nika is in the 35th place in live-ranking which is also the highest ranking. Irakli Labadze had the highest ranking (world No.42) in history of independent Georgia.

As for the match, Nika made a break at 1:1 in the first set and this one break turned out to be enough for winning the set. The Georgian also had a break-point at the beginning of the second set but could not use it and lost 6 games in a row.

The decisive third set was very tense. Basilashvili made break at 5:5 and finally, won the set 7:5.

Nikoloz earned 500 ranking points and 349 200 EUR.

It is worth mentioning that all opponents were considered to be favorites against Nikoloz.
