Today is a farewell of Zurab Khizanishvili, former player of the Georgia national team, from the national team. The 35-year-old defender released a statement on his Facebook page.
“For 16 years I have done the job which I love the most. I have played for many famous teams but playing for the Georgia national team was the most important and honorable for me. I have held 93 matches in the national team and each of them was very special for me. There were ups and downs but it is the most responsible and glorious when you represent your country. I want to thank all my friends, teammates who I have spent these years with but the biggest and the most special thank goes to our fans whose support and love I always felt. Today I am also becoming a fan and I hope one day we all will witness that huge success and victory of the Georgian football which we are waiting for a long time!”, - Khizanishvili wrote on social network.
Zurab Khizanishvili had debut in the national team on June 5, 1999, against Greece (1:2) in Tbilisi. He held the last match in the national team against Germany (1:2) on October 11, 2015. Khizana has held 93 matches and scored only one goal in the national team.
As for Zurab Khizanishvili’s club career, he has played for Dinamo Tbilisi, Lokomotiv, Samtredia, Dundee, Glasgow Rangers, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, Reading, Kayserispor. Now Zurab is playing for Inter Baku.
