Georgia-Slovakia: Only Once before, in Cyprus

Georgia will hold a friendly match against Slovakia in Austria on May 27. The Georgians have played Slovakia only once before and they won it. It was 16 years ago when late Davit Kipiani and Revaz Dzodzuashvili coached the team.

It was a 8-team tournament and Slovakia-Georgia played in ¼ final. Temur Ketsbaia and Mikheil Kavelashvili scored goals and the Georgians won 2:0. In semifinal Georgia lost to Romania in penalty shootout (1:1, pen. 2:4) and defeated Armenia 2:1 in the match for the third place.

Georgia lacked some leading players at this tournament, for example, Giorgi Kinkladze, Levan Kobiashvili, Kakha Kaladze.
