Today champions and prize winners of 5 weight categories were revealed at Baku Grand Slam. Four Georgians wrestled on the Azerbaijani tatami but none of them reached Top 3.

Lukhum Chkhvimiani (60 kg), Vazha Margvelashvili (66 kg) and Mariam Janashvili (57 kg) held only one meeting on tatami.

Chkhvimiani lost to Amartuvshin Dashdavaa of Mongolia by waza-ari. Margvelashvili fell to Azamat Mukanov of Kazakhstan. Janashvili failed to Ivelina Ilieva of Bulgaria.

Only Gela Kelikhashvili (66 kg) managed to overcome the first stage. He defeated Yeldos Zhumakanov of Kazakhstan by yuko. In 1/8 final the 21-year-old judoka lost to Sugoi Uriarte of Spain.

Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be revealed in men’s 73 and 81 kg and women’s 63 and 70 kg. Phridon Gigani, Anzor Khmiadashvili (both 73 kg), Koba Mchedlishvili and Ambako Avaliani (both 81 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
