The third day of Tbilisi Grand Prix turned out to be unsuccessful for the Georgian judo team. Thirteen judokas wrestled in the name of Georgia and only one made through to the final block.
The morning block started at 10:30 and ten of thirteen Georgians lost in two hours.
In +100 kg No.2 seed Adam Okruashvili failed to Andrey Volkov of Russia. Vakhtang Okruashvili lost to Christopher Sherrington of Great Britain and Giorgi Lazuashvili fell to Aslan Kambiev of Russia.
Onise Bughadze won over David Fernandez of Spain and then lost to Maciej Sarnacki of Poland.
In 90 kg Paata Gviniashvili fell to Patryk Ciechomski of Poland by yuko. Archil Gogolashvili lost to Samat Yessen of Kazakhstan.
Tornike Jugeli beat Peter Zilka of Slovakia and then fell to Celio Dias of Portugal.
Zviad Gogotchuri defeated Ibrahim Khalaf of Jordania by four shidos and Tiago Camilo of Brazil by yuko. In 1/8 final the Georgian judoka failed to Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain by ippon.
Only Beka Gviniashvili (100 kg) wrestled successfully today. He beat Viktor Demyanenko of Kazakhstan, Adlan Bisultanov of Russia and Jorge Fonseca of Portugal. In semifinal he lost to Martin Pacek of Sweden. In “bronze final” the Georgian judoka defeated Soyib Kurbonov of Uzbekistan. Gviniashvili won bronze medal and earned 120 ranking points.
In 100 kg Lasha Taveluri won over La Smith of the USA and Frederik Joergensen of Denmark. In ¼ final he fell to Domenico Di Guida of Italy by yuko. In repechage semifinal the Georgian lost to Soyib Kurbonov of Uzbekistan.
Lasha Guruli beat Anis Ben Khaled of Tunisia but then failed to Martin Pacek of Sweden. Jaba Mumladze fell to Soyib Kurbonov of Uzbekistan.
Today heavyweight Elene Kebadze also wrestled in the name of Georgia. In the first round she lost to Kayra Sayit of Turkey.
Overall, the Georgian team won 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.
