The Georgia women’s chess team achieved incredible success at Women’s World Team Championship in China and returned home with a championship title.

The world champions returned home today and talked to “World Sport” at the airport.

Lela Javakhishvili (member of the Georgia women’s chess team): “It is a fantastic feeling. We are very happy but very tired as well because we were traveling 24 hours. It is an incredible result in the Georgian history because we have never won World Team Championship before. We were No.4 seed and we were not favorites. After victory over Ukraine we knew we would win. We lived with chess 24 hours”.

Salome Melia (member of the Georgia women’s chess team): “Besides that we achieved such success, world champion title was very important for us. At first we were planning to get in Top 3. We were very happy. I think we made fans happy too. Hopefully, we will compete in individual tournaments well”.

Nino Batsiashvili (member of the Georgia women’s chess team): “We cannot realize this victory completely. It was a very tough tournament. We are very tired because we put all our energy in this tournament. We are very happy that we made our country happy. To tell the truth, we did not expect the first place. At first we were orientated on Top 3 but then we fought and finally, achieved victory”.
