Georgian women’s chess team achieved another success at the World Team Championship 2015, which is under way in Chengdu (China). In the 5th round of the tournament, Georgian chess players overcame Ukraine 2.5:1.5 and kept the leadership.
In the central meeting of the round, Bela Khotenashvili (2513) earned a point for the Georgian team by beating Anna Muzychuk (2552). Lela Javakhishvili (2481) played draw with Maria Muzychuk (2526), Nino Batsiashvili also played draw with Anna Ushenina (2486) and Salome Melia (2459) played draw with Natalia Zhukova (2471).
As a result, Georgian chess players earned 9 points and are one point ahead of second-placed Russia, which defeated Egypt 4:0. Another favorite of the tournament China overcame Poland 3:1 and is in the 3rd position with 7 points. In another meetings of the 5th round, India won over USA 3:1 and Armenia played draw with Kazakhstan - 2:2.
April 24 is a day off at the World Championship. The 6th round of the current tournament will take place on April 25 and the Georgian chess players will face the team of USA. The Americans have 4 points and occupy the 7th place, therefore, Georgia is favorite of the upcoming meeting again.
