Tatalashvili Became the Champion in Ulan Bator

Georgian judo team won two medals on the second day of Ulan Bator Grand Prix. Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg) won the gold medal and gained 300 ranking points. Esther Stamm, naturalized member of women’s team, gained 120 points together with bronze medal.

Today, on Mongolian tatami, champions and prize winners were revealed in two-two weight categories of men and women. Three sportsmen wrestled under the Georgian flag and only Zebeda Rekhviashvili wrestled unsuccessfully among them. He lost in the initial stage to South Korean Von gi Yang.

Nugzar Tatalashvili overcame Yang in semifinal. Before this meeting, the Georgian won over Turkish Hasan Vanlioglu by ippon and overcame North Korean Hion Hong Kuk by shido (3:1).

In final, the Georgian judoka overcame Mongolian Tsagaanbaatar Hashbaatar 2:1, who is the world champion (in 2009, 66kg) and bronze medalist of Olympic Games (in 2004, 60kg).

Esther Stamm opened the tournament by beating Japanese Rui Takahashi and made through to the ¼ final. There, she lost to Canadian Kelita Zupancic and switched to repechage.

In the bronze semifinal Stamm tied Brazilian Nadia Merly. In the decisive meeting, she overcame Uzbek Gulnoza Matniazova 38 seconds earlier before the final siren.
