Sevens Goes to London!

Georgian national rugby union sevens team beat Japan 17:0 this dawn. The Georgians are in Top 4 of the qualifying stage of World Sevens Series in Hong Kong. So, “The Lelos” will play at the last qualifying stage in London this May.

The Japanese team defeated us 26:7 in the last match of the qualifying stage. Perhaps, they were satisfied and thought to win easily this time too. But the Georgians managed to take revenge over them.

Official website of International Rugby Board (IRB) messed up and did not show statistics of Georgia-Japan match. So, we cannot write about lineups and authors of tries. Streams also messed up and we could not watch this match (we were not lazy to get up at half past of five!). We can only say that in the first half the team of Kakha Alania scored two tries, could not use conversions and advanced 10:0. In the second half “The Lelos” scored try and used conversion. The match finished 17:0.

The main goal was achieved. Semifinal against Tonga had two meanings. The most important was to win the qualifying stage and the second to get in better group at Marriott London Sevens. The Georgian team started the match with the following lineup: Zurab Dzneladze, Irakli Gvinjilia, Lasha Khmaladze, Levan Gogolashvili, Vito Kolelishvili, Aleksandre Todua, Giorgi Jimsheladze.

The first half was to finish 0:0 but we were scored try and conversion 1,5 minutes before the end. At the beginning of the second half Bakhva Kobakhidze, Irakli Machkhaneli, Giorgi Pruidze and Tedo Zibzibadze started playing but it did not change the situation. We were scored two tries in two minutes. One conversion was used. Before the end of the match Zurab Dzneladze scored try and Makharashvili used conversion. The match ended up 7:19.

In spite of that the main goal is reached, managers of the team must work hard because we will have stronger opponents in London. There is not a match for the third place at the qualifying stage. Tonga will play against Zimbabwe in final. Zimbabwe won over Russia 19:5 in semifinal.
