Names of two Georgian weightlifters who failed drug test are known. According to Pavle Kasradze, head of Georgian Anti-Doping Agency, European bronze medal winners Raul Tsirekidze and Davit Gogia failed drug test.
Two days ago Kasradze told “World Sport” he would not name the sportsmen because they have time to appeal sanction and require re-test. Yesterday it was found out that two weightlifters will have a re-test but Tsirekidze and Gogia will face a 2-year disqualification and monetary penalties. The drug test showed the banned drug concentration in their blood at European Championship in Tirana.
Georgian Weightlifting Federation does not make a statement because president Davit Bezhuashvili is abroad. Raul Tsirekidze made a short comment. He stated he did not commit this violation on purpose.
Levan Kipiani, minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, also made comment:
“Of course, we know this issue but we have not received official information from the federation. Everybody will be punished for that” – stated Levan Kipiani.
“World Sport” found out that those two weightlifters who decided to appeal the results of the drug test will be tested at the laboratory of Cologne. Their names will be found out only after that.
