Organization “Fans of Georgian Sport” made an official statement about the incident in “Neftchi”-“Chikhura” match.
On July 31 in Baku the clash occurred between the Georgian and the local fans due to the banner of “Fans of Georgian Sport”. Here is the official statement of “Fans of Georgian Sport”:
“Our organization has no connection to political processes. We support only Georgian sport and our country. The banner which shows the map of the united Georgia was not made for this match. The mentioned banner was made a year ago and we always take it to every match.
We made this banner to remind the Georgian people about our historical lands.
The banner shows the territory of Georgia which is recognized by the world (Abkhazia and Samachablo). Other parts are shown as the lost territories.
We ask all official and non-official persons not to spread disinformation.
Our goal was not to make any provocation between the Georgian and the Azerbaijani people.
The Azerbaijani side stated the Georgian fans were chanting “Armenia”. The mentioned fact is a lie and I want to say that such fact never happened and will never happen on the Georgian tribune.
The statements of “Chikhura” Sachkhere are offensive for us. They stated we violated the interests of the club. The members of our organization have supported “Chikhura” in the Tbilisi matches.
“Fans of Georgian Sport” are thankful to the Georgian embassy to Azerbaijan and its representative Hamlet Huseynov, Nugzar Dekanoidze, director of “Chikhura” Sachkhere, and officials of the Georgian Football Federation who played a key role in releasing the members of our organization”.
