The red sun, The Black Sea…
Next year in January will be exactly 10 years since Levan Tsaguria pioneer of Georgian Sumo started competing in professional Sumo. Kokai (“Black Sea”) made this kind of sport very popular in Georgia. Tsaguria was the first European sportsman who gained title of Sekitor and took place among the best 70 Sumo players. Since that time 8 European sportsmen managed to go through Elite and two of them – Estonian Baruto and Bulgarian Kotooshu own the most prestige titles of Ozeki, but Kokai always will stay distinguished.
Leval Tsaguria
He was born in Abkhazia, Georgia on March 10, 1981. In 1999 won golden medal at European Youth Wrestling Championship as a free-style wrestler. In 2001 Levan entered in Iotekaze school and took martial name Kokai (“Black Sea”) and entered in Sumotori in May. In 2004 he had debut in Makuuchi, in 2006 he won Kumis’s title which is the 4th stage in Sumo. Kokai had 767 matches and won 396 ones. Iokozuna won special prize “Golden star” twice and was awarded with Kanto-sho prize twice. Levan Tsaguria is 190 sm height and weights 150 kg.
