I have come across some articles on internet that Michael McFaul, the United States ambassador to Russia, is famous for his sociability. The episode which took place in Adler (Sochi) proved it.

I was in the control room with the volunteer girls who took pictures with me – perhaps, they were not impressed by my appearance but by beautiful uniform of the Georgian Olympic team and my Olympic cap with “Georgia” on it. At that time a man came up to me and said: Excuse me, I am the United States ambassador to Russia”.

I looked at his accreditation card hanging on his neck and really, he was Michael McFaul – the United States ambassador. The volunteer girls confirmed it.

The ambassador made a pause and told me in Russian: “I am happy to see you. It is good that the Georgian sportsmen arrived in Sochi for the Olympic Games”. He shook hands with me, said goodbye and went away. I was disappointed because I wanted to ask some questions and to take pictures with him.

I realized it was no use to run after him. The ambassador told me his opinion and perhaps, he would not have told anything more.
