The Paris 2024 Olympics turned out to be the most successful in the history of independent Georgia in terms of the quality of medals. Our country earned 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.
In 2008 Georgia also won 3 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics but this year the number of silver medals are more – 3. As you know, at the Olympics priority is given to quality, not quantity. In terms of quantity, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is a record for Georgia – 8 medals (2 gold).
Lasha Talakhadze became 3-time and Lasha Bekauri - 2-time Olympic champions in Paris. No other Georgian has more than one gold medal in the history of independent Georgia.
Georgia has won 47 medals (13 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze) at the Olympics as an independent country since 1996. Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Geno Petriashvili have all three classes of medals (Nino Salukvadze has the same result but she won 2 medals in the name of the Soviet Union). Lado Khinchegashvili (gold-silver), Giorgi Asanidze (gold-bronze), Giorgi Gogshelidze (silver-bronze) and Eldar Kurtanidze (two bronze) have more than one medal.
