After 2 hours and a half flight from Tbilisi to Istanbul and 13 hours flight from Istanbul to San Paulo, together with my colleagues Lasha Kuprashvili, Tamuna Kulumbegashvili and Giorgi Chanishvili, we went to the bus station and continued our way to Rio de Janeiro by bus. Another 8 hours and we reached the Olympic district called Barra.
It was 03:00 am. Besides Olympic banners, our attention was paid to multiplity of law enforcement. In the center of the city and suburbs, almost in every one hundred meters, were standing foot patrols and police cars. To speak about safety measures and make any conclusions is too early, the Olympics have not even started.
In the Olympic village, most people are afraid of Zika virus. This virus is the main concern and worry of all delegation. In this case, organizers and representatives of all countries are individually provided with anti mosquito sprays and solutions. However, many local people believe that Zika virus is induced and infection is minimal. To believe and calm down is very difficult, when you see general mobilization around.
It is August 4 and two full days are left until the official opening of the Olympic Games, but there are many things to be done. Here is the plan:
1 Activation of the accreditation
2 Visit the press center and specify the necessary details to work
3 Visit the Olympic Village to attend the meeting of the President of Georgia and the Georgian delegation
4 Thoroughly study of residential district and supply the “family” with food
