Georgia’s Olympic team will have another member at the Rio Olympic Games. Weightlifter Anastasia Gottfried got the Olympic license, who participates in the name of Georgia since 2015 and already gained success.

By the decision of Weightlifting International Federation, the Russian team with full composition was removed from the Rio Olympic Games and the remaining licenses will be redirected to 8 countries.

Anastasia Gottfried has already managed to win the silver medal at the last European Championship and this year, she won gold at the Junior World Championship in Tbilisi. Gottfried participates in +75kg weight category.

Kakhi Kakhishvili (President of Georgian Weightlifting Federation): “We have heard unexpected and pleasant news. Anastasia Gottfried is confident, purposeful athlete and she deserved Rio Olympics. I wish success to our team”.

Thus, 40 Georgian athletes will take part in Summer Olympics 2016, which is the highest ranking for our country.
