The Georgian national rugby union team defeated Romania 38:9 at European Nations Cup and besides the championship title, the team also won Antimoz Iverieli Cup which is awarded to Georgia-Romania match winner.
“The Lelos” proved once again that there is no team equal to them among the second level teams. The toughest matches are ahead but the rugby players told worldrugby.ge that they are in a good shape and are ready to play oceanian countries.
Lasha Lomidze: “I expected winning over Romania because we were well-prepared. I think we can play Six Nations teams. We just need a chance. As for the next round which will be held in June, we have tough opponents – Samoa, Fiji and Tonga. Hopefully, we will keep winning matches”.
Merab Kvirikashvili: “We won Antimoz Iverieli Cup once again. I want to congratulate the Georgian people on this victory. As for Six Nations, I do not know if we are ready but we have ambition to play among these teams!”
Giorgi Nemsadze: “We demonstrated what we had worked on before. We beat the opponent in all components. We are proud that so many fans came to watch the match. As for June matches, we will try to play with optimal composition”.
Beka Tsiklauri: “I think today’s match was our best one at the 2016 Nations Cup. We won over Romania by record blowout. I think we are ready for Six Nations but we have to prepare better”.
