Bernard Laporte, head coach of “Toulonnais”, and the team management are excited with Mamuka Gorgodze’s decision.
When Kote Mikautadze, another legionary of “Toulonnais”, was called up for the match against Russia, the team had a problem on his position against “Grenoble”. Gorgodze helped “Toulonnais” to solve this problem and agreed to play in the second line.
“We had to let one player play for the Georgian national team and asked Mamuka if he would play in the second line. He agreed. The player, who makes 19 tackles per match must be on the field for sure” – stated Laporte.
“According to the agreement of “Toulonnais” and the Georgian Rugby Union, I did not have to play at Nations Cup. In fact, this tournament means nothing to us. We have already guaranteed the 2019 World Cup and Romania is the only team which is equal to us. The boys who will play Russia can beat Romania as well. Despite everything, I am coming to Tbilisi to play Romania.
As for the changing of the position, Laporte asked me to play in the second line and I agreed. Of course, it is more pleasant for me to play in the third one but the most important is to be on the field” – Gorgodze told worldrugby.ge
