Today Aleksi Akhvlediani, chairman of EYOF Tbilisi 2015 Organizing Committee, officially presented the organizing group of EYOF opening and closing ceremonies in the press conference hall of the Georgian National Olympic Committee.
The Georgian Chamber of Culture will organize EYOF Tbilisi 2015 opening and closing ceremonies. Davit Okitashvili, president of the Georgian Chamber of Culture, will head the organizing group.
The Chamber of Culture invited David Zolkwer as a director of the events.
Aleksi Akhvlediani (chairman of Tbilisi 2015 Organizing Committee): “Tbilisi will host a very important sporting event for the whole country. The Georgian Chamber of Culture will organize the opening and closing ceremonies of the festival. Mr. Davit Okitashvili will head the organizing group. When I learnt that David Zolkwer would be a director for the opening and closing ceremonies, to tell the truth, I did not believe it but it is true. David is a very famous director. He has participated in the opening ceremonies of a lot of sporting events, for example – 2012 London Olympics”.
Davit Okitashvili (president of the Georgian Chamber of Culture): “We will cooperate with anybody who wants to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies. I am sure everything will be alright. We have invited famous director Mr. David Zolkwer. He has been a director for many sporting events. David visited all regions of Georgia. Cultural ornaments of the Georgian regions will be used in the opening ceremony. There will be a lot of surprises. The opening ceremony will take place in “Mikheil Meskhi” stadium on 26 July. Our one of the messages is that Georgia is a member of European family”.
David Zolkwer (director of Tbilisi 2015 opening and closing ceremonies): “It is a great honor for me to be in Georgia. I have visited different regions of Georgia during 2 weeks. Our main message will be that Georgia is proud of its history, culture and hospitality. About 4000 teenagers will arrive in Tbilisi on 26 July. Our message will be that Georgia is a part of Europe. I want to thank the Organizing Committee and the Chamber of Culture for having me here”.
David Zolkwer was born in Manchester in 1964. He has worked on the following projects: the Hong Kong Handover and Farewell Ceremonies in 1997, the opening ceremony of 2004 Athens Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, the opening ceremony of 2010 FIFA World Cup and the opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympic Games.
Directors Davit Doiashvili and Basha Potskhishvili will be assistant directors and Tamar Potskhishvili – an artist.
The opening ceremony of EYOF will be held in “Mikheil Meskhi” stadium on 26 July. The festival will end up on 1 August. Tbilisi will host about 4000 young athletes from 50 European countries.
