Georgian weightlifting team won the first medal at the European Championship, which is under way at Tbilisi Sports Place. After two-year disqualification, Davit Gogia won the bronze medal in 105 kg.
Georgian weightlifter lifted 177 kg in the second attempt and in the third attempt – 181 kg. Polish Bartlomiej Bonk lifted 185 kg and Russian Gennady Muratov – 183 kg.
Georgian team’s member opened snatch with 210 kg and successful attempt, but in the next two attempts could not lift 216 kg bar and overall occupied the 9th place.
Bonk became the champion of Europe with 408 kg (185+223). Moldovan Andrian Zbirnea earned 399 kg (177+222) and took the second place and Polish Arkadiusz Michalski lifted 399 kg (173+227) and won the bronze medal.
Giorgi Machavariani also involved in the competition in 105 kg, but could not use even one attempt and ended the tournament without medal. One of the reasons of his failure was the trauma of his leg.
Today the last set of medals will be found out in +105 kg and the members of A group, including Irakli Turmanidze, will take part from 17:00. In B group, Giorgi Chkheidze took the 4th place.
