Georgian sportsmen will participate in World Kickboxing Youth Championship in Thailand on March 16. Three sportsmen are invited but only two of them will go due to financial problems.
Gocha Javakhia, president of the Georgian Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, told “World Sport” that Arsena Karagvezashvili, Tsotne Javakhia and Davit Meskhoradze won a right to compete in the tournament from Georgia. However, only Karagvezashvili and Javakhia will depart for World Championship. The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs will finance them.
“Our federation applied to the Ministry of Sport to finance these two sportsmen because they are more titled kickboxers. The fate of Davit Meskhoradze is not clear yet. Kutaisi City Hall will finance him with 2000 GEL which is not enough for this tournament”, - noted Gocha Javakhia.
According to him, Meskhoradze needs 6500 GEL for departure and they applied to the Ministry of Defence – Davit Meskhoradze is 4th year Bachelor School Junker at Davit Agmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia.
“World Sport” also contacted the Ministry of Defence. The Department of Public Relations informed us that the National Defence Academy is not going to finance Meskhoradze.
“The main priority of the National Defence Academy is to prepare highly qualified officers. The Academy supports development of Junkers outside the Academy. Junker Meskhoradze will be able to restore missed hours after his return”, - the Ministry of Defence replied.
The Georgian sportsmen will depart for Thailand on March 14.
