The organizational committee of the 2015 European Weightlifting Championship held a press conference at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs. The committee members talked about the preparation stage of European Championship which will take place in Tbilisi on April 11-18. The organizers stated TV channel Eurosport will broadcast European Championship. During the tournament Tbilisi Sports Palace will be live on Eurosport 30 hours. About 45 million people will watch European Championship on Eurosport.

Kakhi Kakhiashvili (chairman of the organizational committee of the 2015 European Weightlifting Championship, 3-time Olympic champion): “I did everything to host European Championship in Georgia. Giorgi Arsanidze also used his contacts. After the resignation of Armaz Tavadze, president of the Georgian Weightlifting Federation, International Weightlifting Federation told me Turkey was ready to host European Championship. I said I would take responsibility of holding European Championship in Tbilisi. This great tournament will help popularization of weightlifting in Georgia. If we hold the tournament successfully, we may host the 2016 World Youth Championship”.

Irakli Medzmariashvili (director of the organizational committee): “We are hosting this great forum because of our great traditions in weightlifting. We must host the tournament at high level”.

Levan Kipiani (minister of Sport and Youth Affairs): “All credits go to Kakhiashvili and Asanidze that we are hosting European Championship. This tournament will make weightlifting popular in Georgia. TV channel Eurosport plans to broadcast European Championship from Tbilisi”.
